Dear Readers,
As you may have seen, the University of Austin is officially a university in Texas. We gathered UATX co-founders Niall Ferguson, Bari Weiss, Pano Kanelos and I at my home in May 2021 to discuss the idea of starting a bold new university. Shaped by some of America’s leading entrepreneurs and academics, UATX was founded to fight for the principles behind the exceptional success of the United States of America. We are on a mission to graduate a generation of leaders who courageously explore innovation and truth, unencumbered by ideological straitjackets — young men and women who will not hesitate to fight for solutions to our nation's challenges, and inspire thousands of others to follow their lead.
Two-and-a-half years later, we are recruiting our inaugural students: our 100 Founding Scholars.
All 2024 UATX students will receive four-year tuition scholarships, but as a special commitment as chairman and as an American, I am partnering with my friend Alex Magaro to endow 10 Build Scholarships. Each Build Scholar will receive an additional $100,000 over four years, in addition to the tuition scholarship. These 10 Build scholars will be selected for their exceptional promise and eagerness to build with the intent of strengthening our country. In the video below, I talk more about this opportunity.
Applications for the University of Austin are open now (click here)! If you know a talented, daring young person who wants to be part of something important, please send them our way.
We can’t offer the centuries of history boasted by certain institutions, but can certainly promise a more nuanced and engaging understanding of our civilization's history as well as the foundational principles driving our success. At UATX, our students will interact with and learn from many of the innovators and leaders who are shaping future history, and they'll be engaged in a challenging, transformative academic experience that the ivy-covered universities no longer offer.
There are thousands of UATX supporters dedicated to our students and mission — I hope you'll join us.
Joe
Lonsdale Magaro Build Scholarship
For students who show outstanding promise as builders, innovators, and leaders, the Lonsdale Magaro Build Scholarship at UATX offers a $100,000 scholarship grant in addition to a full, four-year academic tuition scholarship ($150,000). Our most prestigious scholarship seeks to identify future leaders who embody the spirit of American exceptionalism.
In its inaugural class of 100 talented students, UATX will select up to 10 Build Scholars who will work closely with the extraordinary luminaries in the UATX Talent Network, including UATX Board Chairman Joe Lonsdale, founder of Palantir, Addepar, and 8VC. The goal is to mentor and cultivate young builders who possess great potential in applying their talents to renew American institutions, governance, economy, and society.
Recipients of the Lonsdale Magaro Build Scholarship must demonstrate: superior academic achievement, commitment to the United States’ founding Enlightenment principles, a willingness to pursue truth with boldness and courage, and the entrepreneurial spirit to create, build and lead enterprises that will advance the American polity.
Please apply to UATX here in order to be considered.
Whether the University of Austin can fulfill its founders' hopes will probably not be known in their lifetimes. One positive thought is that while Stanford University is now a world famous institution, the only graduate from Stanford ever to become President was from their very first freshman class, Herbert Hoover
Thank you for doing this. You are the embodiment of my belief that America will continue to thrive, to lead in frontiers.
